Welcome to NationsIn 1993, the year Nations begin, the mission was to seek out the rich cultural heritage of dance in our region and elevate these traditional art forms on a stage for a wide audience to enjoy. Nineteen years later that mission remains the same. From a brilliant tango, to a Bollywood extravaganza, Nations will showcase more than 15 dance traditions with over 200 dancers and musicians. You will again have the opportunity to travel the world in the comfort of our state-of-the art theatre during the festival weekend. Also, don't forgot that we will offer a performance specifically for students from around the county on Friday morning during the 2014 Nations festival. If you are interested in bringing students to this special performance, please look at the 2013 Student Performance information here. I love the unscripted moments of Nations. I often ask a few dancers from different traditions to improvise with each other to the same music. For example, how would Chinese, Spanish and Hawaiian dancers move to the same rhythm? And, later the joy and spontaneity continues during intermission and at the end of every performance when all of the dancers and musicians break out in dance. It is a spine-tingling experience every time. It is such a privilege for me and for the Coronado School of the Arts Foundation to bring Nations to the stage every year. Please join us for this journey full of the music, movement and beauty of the world just across the bridge in Coronado. See you in February! Betzi
